Van Cleef & Arpels‘ iconic Alhambra collection was launched in 1968, and since then it has been an emblem of the Maison. The collection presents an elegant design of a lucky-charm motif, in a shape of a clover, representing, luck, health, fortune and love. This anniversary has a great significance to the Joaillerie house, as 50 years ago it was a relevant time for the brand. The Alhambra connects fine jewellery with tradition and with women getting more independent. At the same time, they are still appreciating an element of refinement and long-lasting value – and an element of transgression. The brand wants to enlighten those who are interested whereabouts it’s beginning, the concept of history and heritage.
This iconic design has been worn by Princess Grace of Monaco. She was fond of the brand and their unique designs. Taking a liking to the brand, it became an official supplier to the Princess. Van Cleef & Arpels has also specially designed jewellery for her for several occasions, such as her wedding and the wedding of Princess Caroline to Phillippe. Nonetheless, she also wore it as day-wear jewellery, as seen in the photograph.
There are several new designs that have been created to commemorate the Alhambra’s 50th anniversary. There are similar features to the original Alhambra design, however, there are aspects of it that make it different. The newer design of the Alhambra is more contemporary. Including the original classic features of diamonds and iconic motif of a four-leaf clover still part of the design. Additionally to the new design sees several changes, there’s more emphasis on gemstones adding a contrast of colours, enhancing the uniqueness of the jewellery.
