Hermès takes you on a dreamlike journey with a mesmerizing performance that’s pure Parisian magic. The So Chic Team had the pleasure of attending the captivating ‘On the Wings of Hermès’ exhibition, and it was nothing short of enchanting. This immersive experience was a journey into the world of Hermès, where storytelling, puppetry, and movement combined to create a dreamlike spectacle.
The performance, a collaboration between Hermès, film director Jaco Van Dormael, choreographer Michèle Anne De Mey, and the Astragales dance company, was a celebration of the brand’s heritage and artistry. Each of the seven acts paid homage to Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek myth, and his foals, through fantastical landscapes and storytelling.
From the moment we stepped into the venue, we were transported to a world of wonder. The set design was nothing short of magical, and the lighting created an atmosphere that was both intimate and ethereal. As the performance began, we were enthralled by the dancers’ graceful movements and the captivating storytelling. From the fluttering silk scarves to the delicate craftsmanship of leather goods, every detail was meticulously curated to tell the story of the brand’s heritage and innovation.
What truly captivated us was the seamless blend of art forms. The dancers of Astragales moved with incredible grace, their movements mirroring the projected scenes on the giant screen. These scenes, a collaboration between choreographers and image technicians, brought to life miniature utopias where Hermès scarves morphed into billowing sails and Kelly bags transformed into a playful opera.
The playfulness extended beyond the objects. We were particularly delighted by a sequence depicting flying gloves carried aloft just like migrating geese, a whimsical touch that perfectly captured the essence of Hermès’ spirit.
The magic doesn’t stop after the curtain falls. On the Wings of Hermès extends the experience beyond the live performance with a captivating 35-minute film. This cinematic companion piece not only enriches the themes explored in the performance but also showcases Hermès’ commitment to storytelling across various artistic mediums. Think of it as a chance to relive the spectacle and delve deeper into the brand’s enchanting world.
“On the Wings of Hermès” wasn’t just a performance; it was an invitation to tap into our inner child, to revel in the power of imagination, and to see the world through a fantastical lens. It left us with a newfound appreciation for Hermès’ ability to weave storytelling, craftsmanship, and artistry into a truly unforgettable experience.
