So Chic Experience #10 with Art Porters Gallery was a perfect journey in the charming area of Spottiswoode Park where the gallery lies amongst Peranakan shophouses! Guillaume Levy-Lambert, the owner of the gallery and our guide for the night, invited us to explore this area where he has been living for more than 20 years! He gave us all the secrets of this pretty street!
A real timeless voyage with fleeting memories.
After exploring the area, we celebrated the night with a nice glass of Prosecco in the gallery while Guillaume showed us Tilokwattanotai’s exhibition!
In this exhibition, Thai artist and printmaker Kitikong Tilokwattanotai explores the relationship between colours and raw emotions through two series of abstract paintings.
Different colours evoke different feelings. They hold meanings that are unique to different individuals of various cultures, backgrounds and life experiences.
We tried delicious Otah Otah buns!
“Otak-otak is a cake made of fish meat and spices. It is widely known across Southeast Asia, where it is traditionally served fresh, wrapped inside a banana leaf. Otak-otak is found in certain parts of Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. It is commonly known in Singapore as otah. It can be eaten as a snack or with bread or rice as part of a meal.”
And for the sweet touch, we discovered mango mochis and pineapple ang ku kuehs. Un régal!
Art Porters Gallery has many surprises…we just pushed a hidden door and we discovered a second room where a table dressed with painting materials where waiting for us!
Thanks to this young Singaporean artist, Becky, we all learned how to paint on Peranakan tiles style during one hour!
Everyone had is own tile, she distributed some models to help and inspire us, and let’s go!
A big thank you to all the participants!
We spent an amazing night! It was very inspiring for the new So Chic French Experiences!
