Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a small saucepan over medium heat
Add flour and stir with a wooden spoon for 2 minutes
Slowly pour milk and whisk constantly
Add nutmeg
Increase heat to medium-high and boil until sauce thickens, and whisk, about 2 minutes, til melted and smooth
Preparing the bread
Preheat the grill to 200°C
Butter bread
Arrange and place bread buttered side down on baking sheets and let toast for 5 minutes
Putting it altogether
Spread mustard on the untoasted side
Put 2 slices of cheese and three slices of French ham on top
Top with another piece of toasted bread
Sprinkle the remaining Gruyère
Spoon the beschamel sauce on
Pop into the grill, for around 5 minutes, until the cheese melts and turns golden and bubbling
Serve immediately
Did you know
